QLD Floods newspaper

This 16-page newspaper shows the role local newspapers played during the recent natural disasters in Queensland.

In the summer of 2010/11, Queensland was dealt a double blow with floods of epic proportions followed just days later by Cyclone Yasi. Throughout, local newspapers were determined to get the news into the hands of the people who needed it most.

Our latest release charts the role newspapers played as the flood waters started rising and Yasi first appeared. It takes a look at the extraordinary lengths taken to reach towns cut-off by floods and devastation through to the role provided by local newspapers in co-ordinating clean-up efforts, lifting community morale and rallying support when the real work began after the floods receded and the cyclone moved on.
