Tony Hale Newspaper Works

Tony Hale - CEO


Tony Hale comes from an advertising background having built a very successful career at agencies such as JWT, McCann Erickson, The Campaign Palace and Clemenger BBDO. He also started his own agency, Hale & Collins which was eventually sold to Luscombe & Partners.

Tony has been on the boards of top performing agencies for nearly 20 years which on three occasions have been awarded Agency of the Year. He has also won dozens of worldwide creative awards and 5 AFA Effies Awards.

Tony is currently Deputy Chairman of the AFA Effectiveness Awards and joined The Newspaper Works as its inaugural CEO in September 2006.

Lucia Elliott

Lucia Elliott - Marketing Director


After two years at Vogue magazine, Lucia began her advertising career at Leo Burnett in the creative department before settling on Account Service, working at agencies such as Mojo, Singleton, McCann-Erickson, The Campaign Palace and George Patts. Accounts included Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Bacardi, KFC, News Interactive and ACP magazines, with Lucia acting variously as Group Account Director, Senior Business Director or General Manager.

During her time at McCann-Erickson Lucia was also Regional Co-ordinator for Unilever Ice Cream brands, responsible for Australia, New Zealand, China and Vietnam markets.

Following a couple of years of  travel and living in London and LA, Lucia joined The Newspaper Works in March 2007 as Marketing Director.

Rachael Lonergan Newspaper Works

Rachael Lonergan - Media Specialist


Rachael began her media and advertising career in 1992 at AIS Media, having gone for the role in the hopes of getting free CDs and concert tickets from their client EMI Music (she did!).

She was an early recruit of The Media Palace, working as a strategist on iconic Australian brands such as Country Road, Berlei Lingerie and Australian Meat and Livestock.  She went on to work at McCann Erickson as a senior strategist working on Nestle, Lancome and then Unilever. Following that, she spent three years in the United States heading up the planning teams for Compaq and then Nabisco at Foote Cone Belding.

On her return to Australia, Rachael spent time at Ikon heading up the Vodafone account, before reuniting with her Media Palace mates as a Director at bellamyhayden , heading up the GSK business. The role of National Strategy Director at MPG then beckoned offering great experience on premium clients such as Optus, Virgin Mobile, and Tourism Northern Territory.

As an independent strategy consultant, Rachael has worked with a broad spectrum of communication based businesses including media agencies, creative agencies and advertisers.

She joined The Newspaper Works in June 2011 and is especially interested in bringing more knowledge to how newspapers work across multiple platforms.

Simon Baty

Simon Baty - Research Specialist

Simon’s background is in market research, specialising in media research.

He has over 13 years experience, including both audience measurement and consumer insights. This experience has been gained primarily with the media division of Ipsos, spanning the UK, Europe, Asia and the US, and more recently with TNS in Australia. It includes a wide range of research methodologies and techniques, and work with leading media owners and agencies.

Simon joined The Newspaper Works in October 2007. He is a full member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS).

Anne Nolan

Anne Nolan - Commercial Services Director

 Anne spent many years working in newspaper advertising with The Age in Melbourne working across various sections of Classified Advertising.

Anne was also a key member of the Fairfax Digital team during the development and launch of their MyCareer and Domain websites.

Since leaving Fairfax, Anne has been building sales, marketing and service teams in fast-growth internet businesses in the US, UK, and Australia, including www.realestate.com.au.

Anne’s areas of specialisations include sales training and development, marketing, global brand development and PR, contact centre management, as well as and sales operations technology.

Anne joined The Newspaper Works in May 2010.

Kate Watson Newspaper Works

Kate Watson - Office Manager


Kate started her illustrious career in publishing at Universal Magazines slugging it out as an editorial assistant. This was followed soon after by a three-year stint at Reader’s Digest working as a researcher on the Australian, New Zealand and South African editions. After a 12-month hiatus from media, working as a PA in the Government sector, the creative industry beckoned once again and Kate landed at The Newspaper Works in July 2011.

Web Manager Newspaper Works

MicheIIe Narayan - Web Manager


MicheIIe graduated from The University of Canberra where she completed her undergraduate degree in Advertising/Marketing and Honours in Communication.

Her professional experience includes copywriting, technical writing, business process analysis as well as interactive producing. She is also an AWARD School graduate.

Kathryn Matthews Newspaper Works

Kathryn Matthew - Accountant


Starting her career in a 'Big 4' accounting firm Kathryn Matthew has held a variety of professional positions including Financial Controller of one of Australia's largest architectural firm.

As a qualified Chartered Accountant she started her own niche business consulting firm in 1996 ‘Matthew and Matthew’ and many of her initial clients are still with her.

She has been with The Newspaper Works since December 2006.
